Today it’s all about praising the King!
I’m writing down some of the first verses of my favourite songs: these are all Bible based, (mostly from the Psalms – surprise surprise(!)), however they do not necessarily quote the Bible exactly…
These are all golden oldies, but in my view the golden oldies are always the best!
Song 1
I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart,
I will enter His courts with praise;
I will say “This is the day that the LORD has made!”;
I will rejoice for He has made me glad!
Refrain
He has made me glad,
I am so glad,
I will rejoice for He has made me glad,
He has made me glad,
I am so glad,
I will rejoice for He has made me glad!
Song 2
Oh LORD, my God, how excellent Your name is,
How excellent Your name in all the earth,
Your glory fills the heavens, the moon and all the stars;
How excellent Your name in all the earth!
Song 3
(This used to be one of my favourite songs way back when I was growing up in Nigeria – ie REALLY way back – and it’s simple words still move me strongly today)
Immortal God,
Invisible God,
Immortal God
How great Thou art!
Song 4 – really old – a hymn in fact – hence the old-fashioned use of language
Immortal, Invisible, God only wise!
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes!
Most blessed most Glorious,
The Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious Thy great name we praise!
Song 5 – another hymn
And can it be,
That I should gain,
An interest in the Saviour’s blood?
Died He for me, who caused His pain,
For me, who Him, to death pursued?
Refrain
Amazing love, how can it be?
That Thou my God shouldst die for me?
Amazing love, how can it be,
That thou my God shouldst die for me!
