Correct origin of the word “Bible”

An apology and a correction to anyone who has imbibed – or even shared what I have previously written on this blog about the origin of the word Biblos, from which we get “Bible”.  It turns out that this is completely wrong, not least because the “Bi” prefix is actually from Latin, not Greek!

Apparently the name “Biblos” possibly originates from a port name Byblos… from where Egyptian papyrus (for scrolls) was exported to Greece: according to this Wikipedia article
